Hiring

OK, so in our little family business, I'm de facto in charge of hiring people. I have some complaints.

First, people, can we follow instructions? If for example, the job post says "Send your resume and compensation requirements" then send your resume and compensation requirements. It's not that difficult. In receiving about 100 resumes from the job boards via email, not ONE person has demonstrated the ability to follow the instructions.

Second, what has happened to proper grammar? For example, here is an email (I am not making this up) that a candidate sent to me responding to my suggestion that we schedule an interview:

From:
Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 22:43:35 EDT
Subject: Re: District Manager

When do u feel is a good time. I will be in and out of the office all week just give me a call or I will call u just give me your number thanks

People -- an email with a prospective employer is NOT a text message on your phone. Atleast take ten seconds to proofread the dang thing and add some punctuation. Is that too much to ask?

Third, can people give a little effort to offer more than a dead fish handshake? I mean, come on! It's not going to get you hired ANYWHERE except maybe Barnes & Noble to show up, offer a limp and damp handshake and then stare at the floor while meeting someone. Seriously!

I have more complaints, but this is getting out of hand. Over and out.

Every time I have an "original" idea, some guy in Denmark seems to have:

a) Already thought the same idea

and

b) written a doctoral thesis about it.

Net-net: The United States gov't doesn't look positively upon private citizens creating artificial islands and proclaiming them independent states. Go figure!
